Trivet - Yew & Ash

£62.00

Precision made, unique and utterly individual.

Designed and constructed by Rob, in our wood workshop, from offcuts of our own home-milled local timber. Use as a serving mat to protect table tops from hot pans and oven dishes. Made with Yew ends and Ash struts.

Yew - very slow growing, smooth -almost waxy- timber. Yew trees can live for thousands of years - and are indeed the oldest trees in the British Isles. Well known in the mythology and folklore of Europe, Yew trees symbolise death and resurrection in Celtic culture.

Yew was famously the most sought after timber for making medieval English longbows, used in the Hundred Years War.

Ash - Soon to become a rare and precious tree in our landscape as we witness the effects of Ash die-back, it is a privilege to be showcasing this bright, versatile hardwood. Its straight grain makes it a wonderfully useful timber for interior joinery, but its ability to absorb shock and vibrations has traditionally made it the choice timber for making everything from tool handles to wheel spokes and carriage frames.

Dimensions: 430mm x 365mm x 10mm
